CASE STUDY: SBC

"The completed solution gave SBC a reference content management and ecommerce system boasting business intelligence features and search capabilities -- both from a public and a customer level -- allowing SBC to standardize technologies across all web properties."
Doug Rasmoff
Director

Objectives

  • Create a standard web infrastructure
  • Control branding strategies across multiple websites
  • Establish eCommerce and Content Management standards
  • Provide standard adapters to legacy applications

Challenge

  • Several core, yet widely disparate, enterprise-level requirements
  • Solution must be easy to administer
  • Must be accessible by non-technical constituents

Response

Southwestern Bell Corporation owns several regional telephone companies throughout the United States, each of which operates autonomously and with separate data centers, technologies, designs, interfaces and services offered. This regionalized mix of technologies was acceptable when strictly used for back-office functions, but as web access to service provisioning, customer support and bill payment became common, the technical disparity became manifest in widely divergent branding and website interfaces.

Results

After several training sessions with various technical groups from different divisions, the solution was incrementally rolled out to all properties and now forms the basis of SBC’s online presence. The completed solution gave SBC a reference content management and ecommerce system boasting business intelligence features and search capabilities – both from a public and a customer level.
