Is Twitter Making an Impact on Your Business?
The micro-blogging site, Twitter, is still growing like wildfire and has become a popular social media marketing tool for business. But how do you judge success on Twitter? Do you look at your number of followers, @ messages, direct messages, retweets?
Since this is an emerging tool, it can be hard for many of us to judge impact and success. New applications for Twitter seem to be created daily, and I was recently forwarded an interesting one that gives some perspective on this topic. The Twitalyzer site helps determine your impact and success on Twitter based on five different categories: influence, signal, generosity, velocity, and clout. I liked this tool because it takes different Twitter activities into account and does not judge success on one aspect alone. The site also gives you the ability to find the most influential people on Twitter. If you share similar interests, it's a good idea to follow these individuals.
From a business perspective, it is also important to see how your Twitter influence extends beyond the "Twitterverse." For example, does your Twitter account drive traffic to your website? Let's say you use Twitter to post links to specials, news, or blog posts on your site. If you do not already have a tool in place, I would suggest Google Analytics to help you track where your site visitors are coming from.
